Pakistan's Car Rental Market in 2026 — Data from 1,085 Verified Vendors

Pakistan has 1,085 verified rent-a-car companies on RentalSawari across 8 cities (May 2026). Lahore leads with 371 vendors, Islamabad second (265), Karachi third (192). Multan has the highest average rating (4.88★). One Islamabad vendor — Faizabad Car Cab — has 6,284 Google reviews, more than every Quetta vendor combined.

How is Pakistan's rental supply distributed across cities?

Lahore (371) and Islamabad (265) account for 59% of all verified rental supply. The DFW-equivalent triangle — Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi — accounts for 67% (717 of 1,085). Karachi, despite being the country's largest city by population, ranks third (192).

Rawalpindi817.5%4,388
Multan464.2%1,877
Peshawar242.2%353
Quetta211.9%793

The clearest takeaway: Islamabad has 41% fewer vendors than Lahore but 21% more total reviews. Islamabad's vendors are better-known, more established, and more reviewed than the broader Lahore market — likely because Islamabad's rental market is dominated by tourist-focused, English-friendly operators who attract international review traffic.

What is the typical quality bar for Pakistani rental companies?

Across 1,085 verified vendors, 46.5% have a perfect 5.0★ rating (mostly newer vendors with small review counts) and 81.7% rate 4.5 or above. Vendors below 3.5★ represent 10.8% of the directory — usually older businesses that accumulated complaints before earning their current reputation.

Which Pakistani city has the highest-rated vendors?

Multan — 4.88★ average across 46 vendors. Quetta follows at 4.45★, then Lahore (4.43★) and Faisalabad (4.38★). Karachi ranks last among the 8 cities at 4.19★, suggesting Karachi renters are either more critical reviewers or face more service variation.

What services do Pakistani rental companies offer?

With-Driver is the dominant service category. Self-Drive coverage is smaller than expected — only 12.2% of vendors explicitly advertise it, despite growing demand. The biggest market gap is Airport Pickup as an explicit service: only 4.1% of vendors mention it in their description, even though most can do it.

Note on the dataset: service coverage is derived from keyword matches in each vendor's Google Maps description. Actual capability is higher — a vendor that doesn't say "airport pickup" in their description may still offer it. The numbers above represent explicit advertising, not capability.

Where do the most vendors operate within each city?

Lahore concentrates in DHA (Phase 2, 5, 8) and Gulberg III. Islamabad concentrates in F-10 Markaz, Bahria Town, and the I-8 / I-9 / I-10 commercial belt. Karachi concentrates in Clifton, DHA Phase 6, and Gulshan. Smaller cities cluster vendors near the Cantt area and the main commercial markets (Saddar, Jinnah Town, Madina Town).

What does this mean for someone looking to rent?

  1. Renting in Lahore or Islamabad? Supply is deep — compare 3-4 vendors before settling.
  2. Renting in Multan, Peshawar, or Quetta? Supply is thin — book 2-3 days in advance and don't assume you'll find a last-minute option.
  3. Looking for self-drive? Only ~12% of vendors advertise it. Filter the listings carefully and confirm via WhatsApp.
  4. Looking for airport pickup? 95%+ of vendors can do it even though only 4% advertise it. Just ask in your WhatsApp inquiry.

How was this data collected?

Every vendor in this dataset was sourced from Google Maps with the query "car rental in [city], Pakistan", filtered to the categories Car rental agency, Car leasing service, and Transportation service. Temporarily-closed and contact-less entries were dropped. The remaining 1,085 records form the May 2026 RentalSawari baseline. We re-audit quarterly.
